Ok, so anyone who knows me knows that I'm a total geek. I love sci-fi, superheros, shows about things like "Ancient Aliens" and "Modern Marvels." I also have a tendency to bluster on about ultimately meaningless things and yeah... I may beat a dead horse or two until they are completely unrecognizable... I think I'm incredibly entertaining and even occasionally funny, but recognize everyone may not necessarily agree.
(Giorgio Tsoukalos from "Ancient Aliens" - Kim and I love this guy! He's ridiculous.)
Anyway, I never wanted or felt like I needed anyone to enjoy the things I enjoyed, but rather just to accept that I do. When we were leaving The Dark Knight Rises tonight and Kim Kim said "Oh my gosh that was amazing! My nerd pants were going crazy!" Well... That's true love in my book and I never expected it!
I always heard about how when you're married you find out a lot about each other and you have to accept that you may find things you don't like. I know we're still early in this "till death do we part" game, but so far I'm really amazed at what I'm discovering. You hear a lot about finding someone similar is good, or that opposites attract, but what I'm finding is that we're not really similar or opposite. We're complimentary. Maybe that is what it's all about... Maybe it's not all about finding that person who needs strength where you're strong or who can support you where you're weak. Maybe what we're actually talking about is finding someone who is an adventure every day. I enjoy seeing how Kim does what she does. In many ways we handle life in similar ways. We believe many of the same things, but I love it when I find something she does differently. It reminds me that she is not just my wife. Ok, yes she is my wife, but she is a person who God has created to be strong, clever, wise, creative, compassionate and beautiful with or without me. I realize that God has charged me not with "keeping" her, but serving her by striving to be worthy of her every day.
Sure, no one is perfect including Kim. In the same way, however, that every person learns to deal with their shortcomings and still love themselves, I'm learning how to support Kim in her weakness and by doing so become stronger myself.
Ok, that's the end of my sappiness for tonight...
